The North-South Railway project in Saudi Arabia is the largest rail system currently under construction anywhere in the world. It is a 2,400km passenger and freight line that runs from the capital city, Riyadh, to Al Haditha, in the mineral-rich mountains near the border with Jordan.
This film was jointly commissioned by the Saudi Government Transport Ministry and mining companies in the north of the country. It conveys information about the rail project and was produced to provide a showpiece for the opening ceremony in the desert that was attended by King Abdullah. This marked the official start of an enormous engineering operation.
