Maysaloun Faraj has dedicated her life to promoting contemporary Iraqi art.
At her London gallery, she’s preparing for the opening night of a show featuring the work of two Iraqi artists, Hana Mal Allah and Rashad Selim.
With only a few days to go, Maysaloun is under pressure. Hana’s been made anxious by her experience of life in exile, but at least her works are all finished for the exhibition.
Rashad, however, is far from ready for the opening. Will he even produce enough pieces? At work in his studio, he likens the chaos of his unpreparedness to the madness of the war in Iraq.
In the end, the opening becomes a celebration of Iraqi contemporary art; it’s a success for the gallery, but bittersweet for Hana in her exile.
This poignant yet surprisingly funny film explores art, memory and the longing for a homeland lost to war.
