Adolescence can be an emotional assault course. As many as 1 in 15 young people deliberately self-harm and around 25,000 are admitted to hospital every year due to their injuries. Rates of anxiety and depression among teenagers have increased by 70% in the past 25 years, and eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia are on the rise.
Yet teenage mental health is rarely discussed. In this powerful film, six young people phone into a radio show to share their problems with host, Aled Haydn Jones. While the radio show is staged, the callers are real, and so are their stories. This series offers case studies of problems relevant to young people from anorexia to depression, ADHD to bereavement.
It ties into the mental and emotional wellbeing section of the National Curriculum.
