Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, is one of the pillars of the Islamic faith. Every Muslim who has the means is expected to make the journey at least once in their lifetime.
In 2001 more than 20,000 Muslims travelled from Britain to Saudi Arabia. In doing so they joined three million other pilgrims from around the world.
For the first time this film fully reveals the experience of British pilgrims. It follows an Asian Metropolitan Police officer and his ten-year-old son, together with a second-generation Egyptian university student and a Harley Street neurosurgeon who is a convert to Islam.
It’s a picture of personal devotion amid astonishing crowds, and a rare opportunity for viewers to witness an event usually shared only by Muslims.
Awards:
Best Documentary Award, Festival of Cinema and Religion, Trento Italy
Special Merit Award, Sanford St. Martin Awards for Religious Broadcasting
